FREC 3 Requalification / FPOSI to FREC Conversion

Who is this course for?

This qualification can be used to recertify your FREC 3 certification. It can also be utilised as  conversion training from Intermediate First Person on Scene (FPOS I) to First Response Emergency Care (FREC) 3. 

Course Structure

 The FREC 3 Requalification /  FPOSI to FREC Conversion is a 3-day course designed to allow those with either a FREC 3 or FPOSI qualifications to update their knowledge. 

 

  1. Pre-course study 14hrs
  2. 21 hours of contact teaching time
  3. Post-course CPD and Placements*

Entry Requirements

You must hold an in date First Person on Scene Intermediate (FPOS I) or FREC 3 certificate in order to attend this three-day course. Please go to FREC 3 to see the five-day qualification if you have no previous qualifications or an up-to-date FPOS I. 


Learners must be at least 17 years old on the first day of the training. 


 Due to the assessments, adequate numeracy and literacy skills are needed to obtain a pass.

  • Roles and responsibilities of pre hospital care provider 
  • Incident assessment and management
  • Catastrophic bleeding 
  • Airway management
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
  • Emergency oxygen administration
  • Bag Valve Mask (BVM) and pocket mask
  • Trauma assessment and management
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Helmet removal
  • Sprains, strains, dislocations & fractures
  • Chest & pelvic injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Environmental exposure & poisoning 
  • Life-threatening medical conditions
  • Respiratory system
  • Circulatory system 

Assessments

Continuous assessment is applied through the course.  In addition to this, there are:


  • 3 Multiple Choice Questionnaires
  • 3 Anatomy Diagrams 
  • 6 Practical Assessments


 Continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course  

Progression

This progressive suite of pre-hospital care qualifications are part of an HCPC approved programme to enable a learner to become a Paramedic. 

  

The FREC 3 qualification may be used towards other qualifications at the same and higher levels including QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (FREC 4). 


Entry to FREC 4 includes completion of 118 hours of contextualised learning, which must be evidenced by a CPD portfolio. In addition this qualification may aid career progression in a relevant profession.

Requalification

This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. 

To remain qualified, this qualification must be retaken before the certificate expires.
