Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care FREC4

Who is this course for?

 This qualification is specifically designed for those who have already completed the First Response Emergency Care Level 3  (FREC 3) or equivalent, and are looking to progress their career in the emergency services, ambulance services  or the event medical sector.

Course Structure

 The FREC 4 (First Response Emergency Care Level 4) Certificate is a 5-day course which give Learners an intermediate level of prehospital care knowledge and clinical practice to deal with a range of prehospital care situations 


  1. Pre-course study – 20hrs 
  2. 40 hours of contact teaching time


  • Face-to-face delivery of days 1 and 2 – 16hrs 
  • 2 weeks off-course study including completion of Workbook 1 – 40hrs 
  • Face-to-face delivery of days 3 and 4 – 16hrs 
  • 3 weeks off-course study including completion of Workbooks 2 and 3 and revision time in preparation for invigilated exams – 81hrs 
  • Face-to-face delivery of day 5 – 8hrs

Entry Requirements

Learners must  have successfully completed the  First Response Emergency Care Level 3 qualification or a Qualsafe Awards recognised equivalent before you can begin this course. 


Learners must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the training. 


Due to the assessments adequate numeracy and literature skills are needed to obtain a pass.

  • Medical gases – including dosages and administration

  • Respiratory disorders and infections
  • Mechanisms of injury and kinetics
  • Triage
  • Full body and limb immobilisation
  • Sexual assault
  • Major incidents
  • Psychosocial development in children
  • Emergency care for sick and injured children
  • Mental health crisis
  • Assisting the clinician with clinical interventions

Assessments

Continuous assessment is applied through the course.  In addition to this, there are:


  • 2 Invigilated exams
  • 2 Practical Assessments
  • 3 Skills Tests
  • 3 Workbook


Continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course 

Progression

This progressive suite of pre-hospital care qualifications are part of an HCPC approved programme to enable a learner to become a Paramedic. 

  

The QA Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care qualification may be used towards other qualifications at the same and higher levels, plus aid career progression in a relevant professions. 

Requalification

Once achieved this qualification is valid while the Learner maintains a CPD portfolio and has attended annual refresher training. Training should include the assessment and treatment of cardiorespiratory arrest and lifethreatening injury/illness. This may include an Immediate Life Support qualification.  

COVID-19

This qualification will adhere to current best practice regarding COVID-19.


  • COVID Passport required or Lateral Flow test on arrival
  • 3 Ply Surgical mask available 
  • Alcohol 70% hand gel available through facility 
  • Touch points are sanitised regularly
  • Well ventilated training facilities 
  • CPR is conducted in compliance with current Coronavirus guidelines
